Measuring Your Doorway

Measuring for your new door is simple, just follow these easy instructions.

We will need the overall size you want the screen door to be including subframe.

Measure the height from Sill to Lintel then subtract about 20mm for out of square. The top of the screen door will be 37mm below the subframe height so check with a large square to see that the screen door won't hit lights or facia, etc.

Measure your width from Brick to Brick then subtract 10 to 20mm depending on the thickness of your door jamb and if your bricks are protruding out. If you have a single frame house, then measure your daylight opening and add approx 30 to 40mm each side. Be sure to put the screws through the architrave into the door jamb if you are face fitting.

The Locking mechanism should not be too close to the door jamb. That is, if you measure 865mm as your Subframe width, then your daylight opening can be anywhere from 800 to 830mm.

Door Handle Height and Side: Standing on the outside of your house looking in, advise handle side Left or Right. Most handles go above your existing timber door knobs, measure from the sill to above the existing door handle and this will be the bottom of the screen door handle height. 1070mm from sill to bottom of handle will suit most existing door knobs, deadbolts don't normally protrude enough to be an issue.
